My children love each other most of the time…until they
don’t. Then they hate each other. Once we hit that moment, there is no turning
back. Anything the other person does aggravates the situation. Including
breathing, smiling, moving, looking…well really just about everything. I know
fighting with your siblings is normal…it has been going on since the beginning
of time. But it’s completely exhausting playing referee constantly. I don’t
think we can go two minutes without someone yelling, crying, screaming, and
tattling. “Mom, she is looking at me” or “He said he doesn’t like me”. The
fights are completely pointless most of the time. It blows my mind to think
that half the time they play so great together, then at the drop of a hat, they
want to kill each other over some stupid McDonald’s toy they found under the
couch that no one has seen in two years. No joke…my kids have fought over
garbage. Literally garbage.
Conflict is a normal part of any relationship. But
come on, kids, some of this stuff is just dumb. These are the 50 most
ridiculous agreements my kids have. (Yes, 50)
- He is looking at her.
- He likes the cat more…no she likes the cat more.
- It’s her turn to sit by mom.
- She almost touched him.
- He wanted the blue cup. She got it last time.
- She smiled at him.
- He let the dog out yesterday when we got home. He always does it.
- Who started “it”.
- She was singing.
- She took the last granola bar.
- He wanted to shower first.
- Who gets anything first.
- Who gets anything last.
- He put my Barbie in his pants.
- Which toothpaste tastes better.
- Who is taller.
- Who won anything. Ever.
- She ruins his life.
- Who can run faster.
- Who has the most books.
- He took the last cookie.
- He got his dinner plate last again.
- She got to sit by mom.
- She touched my toothbrush.
- He’s in my room.
- Who gets mom’s phone first in the waiting room.
- Who gets to sit on what side of the bathtub.
- It’s mine…no matter what “it” is.
- What show to watch.
- She wanted to be first.
- She wanted to push the elevator button.
- He peed on the seat.
- You always open his door first.
- His blanket is not as warm as her blanket.
- Her feet smell too bad.
- The girls are copying him.
- She “stole” his book.
- Who gets the corner seat on the couch.
- She gets more hugs than him.
- Who gets the first piggy back ride upstairs to bed.
- Why does she always have more money?
- He “won” in the game. It's not fair.
- She laughed when he tripped.
- He tripped her back because she laughed.
- Who gets to sit by the cat.
- Who is better friends with the neighbor?
- Who has bigger feet?
- Who gets to keep that special piece of garbage (literally).
- Who likes who more?
- Who started "it"?
Geez! This is only 50. I am sure I could list hundreds more! They come up with a new reason to fight multiple times a day. Now, I totally understand how my brother and I would drive my mom crazy. Mom, I'm sorry.
It is clear that my children have a love/hate relationship. I think that is probably the norm. I guess we can only cherish the good times when they are best buds and hope they don't end up killing each other.
What ridiculous things do your kids fight about?
Amusing list. I wonder what children would write on the list for adults. I think many of us fall into that referee role and keep it even when the kids get older when it becomes a really thankless task.
ReplyDeleteIt's a life long thing then! Thanks for stopping by!
DeleteI laughed until I cried reading this. I relate to 14. My brother was a real menace to my Barbies way way way back in the day. I know with my kids the "He/she is looking at me" was always a thing. They say kids keep us youthful...I say they're lying. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting me yesterday! Love your blog.
Youthful...I'd say crazy old hag! Thanks for reading. Glad I could make you laugh!
DeleteLove this! My kids are the exact same. There are even fights over who went out the door first, or who gets which car seat. Like come on kids! Now that they're a bit older I can tune most of it out and they (usually) sort it out themselves. My eldest is great at giving in to her sister, even when she knows she's "right" or it was her turn. Maybe not idea for the younger one's life skills development, but I do intervene when a "lesson" needs to be taught.
ReplyDeleteSounds like you have lots of reasons for a glass of wine at the end of the day! ;)
#AlittleBitOfEverything
Thanks, Jessica! I am sure we were like that as kids with our siblings also...I get why I drove my mom crazy! Thanks for stopping by!
DeleteIn addition to your 50, just yesterday alone, she took my towel, she got a smoothie today, she had a candy cane, I wanted the hummus first, I called that seat, that was my water cup, you took my napkin, it's my night with Ema, no its my night with Ema, we are not on that page in the Harry Potter book, she pulled my covers, ...oy vey.... I'm sure there is some sort of executive leadership lessons going on here, but none that I recognize. Thanks Barrie for making us feel normal! #BrilliantBlogPosts xo
ReplyDeleteHa! I probably got 50 more yesterday alone, also! Thanks for reading!
Delete#dreamteam love too
ReplyDeleteYes, yes, and YES!! Sometimes I feel like the ring master of the circus. Well at least the ring master dealing with crazy and wild animals. That is why we moms hide the good stuff in the house to be pulled out for those moments we need a little sweet sanity restoration right?
ReplyDeleteMy life is a circus. More like a freak show! Thanks for reading!
Deleteonly 50!!!
ReplyDeleteslow week huh ;)
Hahaha! I guess it is a slow week!
DeleteWhy must siblings be so competitive?! My girls are always fighting over stupid stuff. Most often it's that one or the other unbuckled the other's seatbelt. Or who got to the car first. Thankfully they don't have a cat to fight over who loves it more. (Though there is the little brother...just give it time and I bet they'll get there) Thanks for sharing again at the #happynowlinkup!
ReplyDeleteYes, they fight over the dumbest things! Thanks for reading!
DeleteI've just had a proper meltdown at my girls for the constant fighting. They barely even look at each these days never mind have a conversation. I long for a time when they become friends but as things are, I'm sadly not sure it will ever happen.
ReplyDeleteOh, I have a multiple meltdowns every day! Stop the fighting!
DeleteThanks for reading.
Visiting from #ABloggingGoodTime (sorry forgot to say!)
ReplyDeleteNO 14 made me LOL. omg I also recognise a lot of these. Good job we love them! Thank you for linking up to #ablogginggoodtime 🎉
ReplyDeleteThank you for reading!
DeleteI only have the one for now, but he has a cousin just 3 weeks younger so I can already relate to lots of these! Like you say, they get on so well... until they don't! I thought 'he almost touched me' was particularly spot on - my son hates being touched when he doesn't want to be! Thanks for joining us at #SharingtheBlogLove
ReplyDeleteJust wait! Those kids fight like crazy!
DeleteThanks for stopping by!
My son absolutely loses his crap when his twin sister does her R2-D2 voice. She doesn't even have to be playing with his R2-D2, but if she looks at him smiling and says, "Boop, BOOP, boop, boop!" almighty hell busts loose. I have given up trying to understand.....
ReplyDelete#DreamTeam
Hahaha! They really know how to push each other's buttons!
DeleteThis is so true. It's so cute when they are best friends and ridiculous when they fight. Thanks for linking up to #FridayFrolics
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness this was me and my sister all over when we were younger! So funny but so ridiculously true! I think you have to love someone so much to get so irritated by them in these ways though! #stayclassymama
ReplyDeleteOhMyGoodness. I am crying, I'm laughing so hard. Even though I'm an only child and never really dealt with any of these myself, I was a 1st & 2nd grade teacher for a decade, so I totally got each and every one of these then. My favorite was #48. Yep. Definitely #48. So happy you shared this with us at #FridayFrivolity this week - and I chose this post of yours as my feature!
ReplyDeleteLisa, thank you SO much! That is awesome!
Delete#48...yep. Just today my kids were fighting over a broken piece of plastic that fell of a toy. Garbage. I might be able to write the sequel..."50 more things my kids are fighting about" just from this weekend!
Oh this made me laugh. My two had an epic meltdown this morning over the lift button. They also like to argue over who loves me the most which sounds sweet but it really isn't #FridayFrolics
ReplyDeleteHaha! Yep. They always fight over who loves mom the most. Goofballs!
DeleteThanks for stopping by!
Haha! These are super funny... though I am betting that it's not funny at the time. I guess the main one for us is - he looked at me! Thanks so much for linking up to the #DreamTeam xx
ReplyDeleteThis is the reason I only had one child. Growing up with 3 sisters this was a constant thing everyday! Although me and my daughter quite possibly have very similar arguments! Thanks so much for linking up at #KCACOLS. Hope you come back again next Sunday
ReplyDeleteI will pin your post and reread it in a couple of years time when I'm considering having another child. I remember bickering with my brother constantly, how we didn't drive my mother crazy I'll never know! #KCACOLS
ReplyDeleteI once heard that siblings fight on average ten times per hour, or something like that. I only have one so I guess we miss out on all that joy! My kindergarteners are always arguing over who is first in the line, and "she has more material than me", "he called me a baby" , etc. The things they argue over are ridiculous! #KCACOLS
